The Centre d'Economie de la Sorbonne (CES - Sorbonne Economic Centre) is a generalist Research Centre founded in January 2006. Its eight axes encompass approximately hundred and twenty lecturers-researchers and researchers in economics, mathematics and sociology. The range of the covered themes is quite wide, as well as the analytical and methodological frameworks. The whole constitutes one of the most prominent French research units in economics, whose international visibility is acknowledged, in particular by the assessment authorities (AERES - Agency for higher education and research assessment - report) The members of the CES organise, autonomously or in collaboration with other institutions, sixteen regular seminars.

The CES is at the heart of different French and international doctoral programmes, and makes quite an extensive collection available to the economist community. According to the Agency for Higher Education and Research Assessment, the CES is indisputably in the leading pack of the French units in economic research

The Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne University is one of the founder institutions of the prestigious Paris School of Economics (EEP/PSE), one of both advanced research thematic networks in economics created in France, whereof the CES is one of the clusters.

The laboratory plays a leading role in the French doctoral training by welcoming more than 250 doctoral students (October 2010).

The CES enjoys unique facilities in the Maison des Sciences Economiques (House of Economic Sciences), in a building exclusively dedicated to research and postgraduate teaching in economics by the Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne university. These modern and functional premises provide all researchers and PhD students with a single place for work and intellectual exchanges.

In addition to research seminars, many colloquia are organised by the CES, which regularly diffuses scientific information via a quarterly CES Letter, sent to its partners and counterparts, via the Working Papers and via its website.
