Beaudoin, Christopher

Dr. Christopher E. Beaudoin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication, a joint appointed faculty member in the Department of Social and Behavioral Health in the School of Rural Public Health, and the Director of Communication and Training Cores at the Center for Community Health Development. Dr. Beaudoin’s program of research is on the social effects of communication in the contexts of health, social capital, and science. Often centering on disparities among poor and underserved groups, this research includes social psychological processes on news media, health campaigns, information seeking, and other forms of communication. Dr. Beaudoin’s research has been published in top communication and public health journals—and has been funded by various governmental agencies and foundations, including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Kansas Health Foundation, Newspaper Association of America, Natural Hazards Center, Ford Foundation, and Population Services International. Dr. Beaudoin has served as a grant reviewer for the National Institutes of Health and is on the editorial boards of Communication Research, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Journal of Health Communication, and Health Communication. He received his PhD from the School of Journalism at the University of Missouri. Prior to joining the faculty at Texas A&M University, Dr. Beaudoin was the Usdin Family Endowed Professor at the Tulane University School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine. His professional experiences include work as a Peace Corps volunteer in Lesotho, a marketing and broadcasting representative for a professional sports team, and a journalist for several newspapers in the United States, as well as for the largest newspapers in both South Korea and Japan.
