CESifo Conference on Families, Children and Human Capital Formation

On October 19-20, 2012, CESifo Economic Studies and Uppsala Center for Labor Studies (UCLS) will hold a joint conference on “Families, Children and Human Capital Formation” in Munich. The purpose of the conference is to stimulate research on this theme. We welcome both empirical and theoretical papers that address policy-relevant questions.

Family background is an important determinant of child well-being and human capital formation. Family and educational policies play a role both in complementing and substituting for the human capital investments of families and, arguably, affect social gradients in both health and education. Providing a deeper understanding of the causal mechanisms involved is an important task for research.
Issues to be covered include the causes and (short- and long-run) consequences of Child health Early-life interventions and events Education and family policies Divorce (and the role of the family more generally)
The keynote lectures will be delivered by Anna Aizer, Brown University, and Kevin Milligan, University of British Columbia.
