Researchers on Regional Economic Modelling

IPTS is looking for researchers on Regional Economic Modelling

The Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) is one of the seven scientific institutes of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC). The Institute's main activities relate to providing strategic support for the conception and development of EU policies. The IPTS is located in Seville. It has a staff of approximately 250, of whom about two-thirds are scientific.

The Knowledge for Growth Unit of the IPTS supports the formulation of EU policies throughout the so-called "knowledge triangle"- research, innovation and education. The Unit is organised in four teams ("actions") and has about 55 staff members.

More information on the work of the Unit can be found at: http://ipts.jrc.ec.europa.eu/activities/research-and-innovation/research...

The Knowledge for Growth unit (KfG) of JRC-IPTS has vacancies for post-doctoral researchers to work on developing a system of regional models that will enable the proper assessment of EU Cohesion Policy. This work is carried out in close co-operation with the Directorate-General for Regional Policy and its external contractors.

The successful candidates will be closely involved in the development of a spatial computable general equilibrium model for the EU regions at NUTS2 level. They should be able to run simulations with the model and to fine-tune the effects over time with the help of more aggregated outcomes of multi-country models. The model will be used for quantitative assessments of the regional impact of EU policies.

The candidates should be familiar with EU regional policy and have ample experience in the econometric estimation and simulation of general equilibrium type models. They should have a good track record of publications.

They must hold a doctoral degree or having fulfilled all the obligations to obtain a PhD (certified by the University) or having a minimum of 5 years research experience after the first university degree giving access to doctoral studies (which may include periods of training such as for a master's degree) in a field relevant to the JRC's scientific activities on regional modelling and policy assessment.

A very good level of written and spoken English is essential and knowledge of at least one other EU language is compulsory.

In case several suitable candidates are identified in the call, a reserve list will be drawn up with a view to fill possible future vacancies within the framework of this project.
