Iversen, Tor

Iversen's foremost academic interest is the impact of market conditions and economic instruments in the health sector. He has published papers on waiting times and other non price rationing mechanisms in health care, economic incentives for primary care physicians and other health economic issues. Projects under work include the interaction between primary health care and specialist health services, economic incentives in long term care, relationships between social capital and health and characteristics of health insurance schemes in rural China. Comparisons of treatment outcomes and costs for five disease groups in seven European countries take place within the EU-funded project, European Health Care Outcomes, Performance and Efficiency (EuroHOPE).

Background

Iversen is an economist with specialization in health economics. He holds cand. oecon. (1978) and Ph.D.(1993) in economics, both from the University of Oslo.

Iversen was appointed Associate Professor at the former Center for Health Administration at the University of Oslo in 1993 and from 2001 Professor of Health Economics same place. He initiated and developed health economics as a teaching theme at the University of Oslo. He was one of the initiators of the Health Economics Research Programme at the University of Oslo (HERO) and from 2006 research director for HERO.

Iversen has had research stays at the University of York, England and the University of California, Berkeley (School of Public Health) two periods (1999-2000, 2005-2006).

Collaboration

Internationally, he has research cooperation with universities in six European countries through the EuroHOPE project, with researchers at two universities in the U.S. (Boston University and UC Berkeley) and with researchers at Shandong University in China.
