Higher School of Economics

The Higher School of Economics was founded on November 27th, 1992, by an Ordinance of the RF Government.

In October 2009 the Higher School of Economics received the status of a National Research University.

On December 23rd, 2010, the University received the status of an autonomous educational institution (Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation #1109 'On the creation of a federal state autonomous educational institution of higher professional education "National Research University - Higher School of Economics"').

On December 30th, 2011, by an act of the RF Government, the Moscow State Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM) along with two continuing education institutions, the Training Center for Managers and the State Academy of Investment Experts (GASIS), were merged with the Higher School of Economics.

Over 20 000 students, 3930 master's, and 587 doctoral students are studying at the HSE. As per October 1st, 2012, 14 715 are studying at the HSE in Moscow.

The HSE has 3 regional branches: St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Perm.  

As per October 1st, 2012, the HSE faculty includes 1615 professors and 673 researchers.
