Annual Conference in Memory of Valeria Solesin

The Department of Economics of the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, jointly with the University of Trento and the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and INED (Institut National d’Études Démographiques), are pleased to announce the first Conference in Memory of Valeria Solesin. The conference will take place on November 11, 2016, at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Aula Magna Silvio Trentin, Ca' Dolfin, Dorsoduro 3825.

A trained sociologist and demographer, Valeria was starting the final stage of her PhD at the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne on contemporary fertility behavior in Italy and France. Her main research interests involved marriage and family, the role of women in the labour market and in society, and fertility decisions.                                                                              

This one-day conference provides an opportunity for presentations and discussions on recent developments in the fields of Demography, Economics, and Sociology as described below. Contributions to the conference can be either theoretical, empirical or policy oriented. Contributions addressing the following specific topics will be particularly welcome:

  • Gender inequalities
  • The role of women in the labour market and in society
  • Welfare policies targeted to the labour supply of women and fertility decisions
  • Marriage, family and sexuality.

Young scholars, such as PhD students and post-docs, are encouraged to apply.

Paper submission

Completed papers should be submitted by e-mail to [email protected]  by 30th September 2016.

All papers will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee and acceptance/rejection will be communicated by 10th October 2016.

Best paper prize entitled to Valeria Solesin

Selected papers will be considered for the “Valeria Solesin Prize”, thanks to the generosity of the Foundation Udinese per la Vita Onlus,  to be awarded to a Ph.D. student. The prize amounts to € 4000.00, in addition travelling and accommodation for the winner of the prize will be fully covered.
