Professor Sociology - Comparative Sociology at the University of Duisburg-Essen

The Faculty of Social Sciences, Institute of Sociology, at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, invites applications for a full-time tenured position
at the rank of full professor (Salary group W 3), for a University Professor Sociology –Comparative Sociology.

The position will start on April 1st, 2012.

The successful candidate will have a solid record of research, peer reviewed publications and teaching experience in the field of comparative sociology with a focus on comparing societies or institutions, or processes of transnationalization.
Prior success in the acquisition of third-party research funds and experience in the management of research projects is expected. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to innovative teaching forms.
The successful candidate will be expected to join the university’s main research area on the "Transformation of contemporary societies: Building order in a borderless world."
Teaching responsibilities span the BA and MA in Sociology as well as servicing teacher training in the social sciences, especially in the fields of
Comparative Sociology and Transnationalization. New impulses for the internationalization of the BA- and MA-degrees in Sociology as well as in the
teacher training degrees are also expected. At present all degree programs are offered in the German language. Non-German
applicants are expected to be able to teach in German within two years following appointment.

Candidates must demonstrate fulfillment of the following requirements according to §46 of the Law on Universities in North Rhine-Westphalia (HG): A first university degree, a doctorate and additional academic achievements beyond the doctorate which can be demonstrated in one of the following ways: on the basis of an assistant professorship/lectureship, or a university teaching qualification (Habilitation), or an academic post at a non-university research institution, in business, in administration or in another professional area either in Germany or abroad.
